LeedsUnited
Leeds United - also known as The Whites, Peacocks or simply United - is a professional football club based in the northern English city of Leeds. They've never shied away from betting on young players looking for a shot at glory, and they're not a bit ashamed of who gives them championships! The association was founded on Easter Monday 1864 and is therefore 160 years old this year! Her greatest domestic achievements include three First Division championships (1969 and 1974), an FA Cup win over Arsenal by just one goal (1972) and a crowd of 100,000 at Wembley Stadium because it felt like everyone else was watching too, with TV screens across the UK showing the replays after every shot...
At international level, Leeds have won the Fairs Cup twice: in 1968 against Budapest (1-0 and 0-0) in the first ever European Under-21 tournament; 1971 against Turin in the second leg, which they won 2-1 after being 2 goals down! They were also in the finals of the other two European competitions. And they lost there too - only AC Milan could beat them as they once again fought for first place at club level in 1973.
In 1975 the European Cup was decided in Paris. After defeating FC Barcelona 2-1 and 1-1 respectively in the semi-finals (ironic considering they were rivals until 1991), Leeds reached the final against Bayern Munich, which they won on July 29, 1976, the Final day, lost by two goals from Gerd Müller with 0:2!
