Galatasaray Istanbul
Galatasaray Spor Kulübü (German: Sportklub Galatasaray), also known as "Cimbom", was founded on October 1, 1905. It is the most successful and popular football club in Turkey and has been playing in the Sürper Lig without a break since 1959!
The greatest international success was winning the UEFA Cup in 2000 against Borussia Dortmund and Leeds United. After 120 minutes of football, Galatasaray won on penalties to go down in European history as a unique team! They are also the only Turkish side to have accomplished this feat; not even Real Madrid could beat them when they were fighting for the historic Supercup crown last year...In total there have been six different winners in the history of these competitions, including two Spanish teams (Real Madrid), English club Arsenal FC and the German club Bayern Munich). The other four sports include Italian champions Juventus.
The team goes by a number of different names popularly and among fans. One of these names, "Aslanlar" (lions), suits their fearless fighting spirit, which resembles that of an old wildebeest ready to pounce on any opponent in sight! Others call them "Cim Bom," which means "ball hit," because when you get it right, it feels like nothing can stop your swing."
